Soccer Mom

I never wanted to be one. I don't know why. I just didn't. Well this week I became one. I'm in mourning.

Hunter has begged us for about two years if he could play soccer. We've always told him no because most of the leagues play August - March. Well that is smack-dab in the middle of Produce Season, and I don't want to be a Soccer Mom, let alone a Single Soccer Mom. So Hunter has always played T-Ball or Baseball because that is a Spring Sport and Paul is more available to us and to help me.

Well in February Hunter brought home a "Soccer and Scouting" sign up form. The season was March - May. And he begged "PUH-LEEEAAASE can I play soccer?!?!!??" We said yes.

Now as a background on Hunter. He is a Nelson - thru and thru. Sports are what he is all about. If there is a ball involved, he loves it. Basketball, Baseball, Golf, Soccer....he loves them all. He's even taken up throwing a football around...something I barely tolerate. (He's just soooo little! He'll get eaten alive in high school football!) Well at recess this last year the sport to play has been Soccer. He's even learned some of the Soccer vocabulary in Spanish because of all the kids in his class!!! Well as with every sport he plays. He's INTENSE.

So we signed up Hunter for Soccer. Then proceeded the 20 questions.

"Mom, have we heard from my team?"

"Mom, do we know what time my first game is?"

"Mom, we need to go buy my cleats!"

"Mom, what color will my team be?"

AHHHHHH!!!! Everyday, there was some type of soccer question. I finally told him to stop and if he kept pestering me he wouldn't get to play soccer at all! (nice parenting, huh??!?!?)

We finally got some answers. Wednesday he had his first practice at 5:30. He was dressed to go at 3:30. He gets home from school at 3:05.

And today was his first game. He was supposed to be at the fields at 8:15. He got up at 6:15. We told him to go back to bed!! It was a little chaotic for the first game, but still fun. Hunter volunteered to be Goalie for the first half, which was hilarious to watch because he was so antsy watching all the action on the other side of the field. He was kicking an imaginary ball around the entire first half. But he did his job when he needed to. He saved the one goal that was attempted on him!

This is him as goalie.

He was NONSTOP during the second half. I don't know how he kept going and going!

He had some moves too! Here he is using his arm to not let the other play in. It was quite hilarious to see him play defensively. It must be some rough playground if that's how he plays at recess!

Getting ready for a kick!

At the end of the game....all red and sweaty...and HAPPY!!!

I need a volunteer Statistician. I am determined to count how many times Hunter is on the floor during a game. Slide tackle, trip, slide tackle - those are his moves. He's been watching to many Euros play soccer and so it's an automatic to the floor with this boy! Now I know why all his jeans get ruined during recess and why he has so many bruises on his legs! I'll let you know his Stats next week!

One game down! Eight more to go! Woohoo!!
